Get to know Jamie

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

In looking at the future of my own children, I realized that I wanted to find my "adult" career that fulfilled my need to help others while having a second income to support my daughter's journey through medical school. As a single parent, that is often not possible. Teaching children and finding the counseling profession interesting led me to seek answers about who I had been for years and reasons why I had not sought counseling for some of my own traumas and life's bumps along the road we all call life. It made sense once I started learning more about the profession of counseling and how the body, mind, and soul are all interconnected.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work best with clients who are open to change and desire a healthier mindset in the age range of 14-65.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am excited about working with clients who are engaging and ready to build a partnership with a foundation in trust and empathy.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish every client knew their story mattered.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

Thriveworks simply stood out above the crowd when I began searching for the right fit for me. The option to see clients in a hybrid setting made it easy for me to meet my own goals as a parent while focusing on my counseling career. I particularly liked the option for clients to be seen in the evening and on weekends, which works for many people who hold jobs that are during traditional work hours.

What inspires you?

What inspires me most is the drive to give back to the special needs family/parent/child population by empowering and educating others.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In the first session, clients can expect to be welcomed in with southern hospitality and warmth. They should expect to be heard and given ample opportunity to express their wants, needs, fears, goals, and aspirations. Clients should also expect to be asked the difficult questions we all avoid answering for we fear judgement from others. They will be provided with support and encouragement to share honestly and at their own pace, while learning to challenge themselves in a supported safe space.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I would like to accomplish roles, expectations, and start to foster a working relationship built on collaborative thinking.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

Clients should know that I am a studious person. If there are questions you have about mental health or your challenges, I am open to reading articles, books, and doing research with you to help support a healthier version of who you are today and who you want to be tomorrow.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

During my time off, I spend it with my children. I also enjoy taking mid-day naps when I have time off or sitting in silence to allow my own mind to process daily events or weeks of work that I need to unpack. I enjoy road trips and days spent listening to the ocean as I relax with my family.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I am a lifelong learner.

Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?

One success I had with a client thus far is watching the client take the tactics worked on in therapy and shared those with their children and grandchildren to promote positive family health.
