Get to know Hugo

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I decided to become a social worker when I came to the realization of the need of social services, including mental health well-being. Being able to understand and present concepts, tips, and tricks for my clients and seeing their recovery happen before my eyes is what fuels me to continue.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I am passionate about working with clients who face challenges in building relationships, managing emotional and social issues, and overcoming mental health concerns.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

My clients are committed to personal growth and are not afraid to seek professional guidance to help them become the best version of themselves.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish everyone was aware of the importance of mental health and the impact it has on us and the relationships we build knowingly and sometimes unknowingly.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I decided to work at Thriveworks to form part of a team that aims at providing the highest quality of care for the clients we serve.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the impact vulnerability and empathy can have on relationships and when I see the goals my clients meet after helping them understand and use both to build better connections.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In our initial session, you can expect a comfortable and safe space where you can openly share what you are currently facing and learn more about me and how I may be of service to you.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

In our first session, I aim to help my clients feel comfortable with sharing more about who they are and what they want to achieve with therapy. Together, we will develop a personalized plan to guide our work together throughout subsequent sessions.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

My aim is to always create a safe space for my clients to openly share whatever is one their mind. I will always offer an area of comfort for my clients to feel welcomed.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

My hobbies include working out and playing video games. I have identified that these two things help me manage any stress I may experience.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I am someone who is always seeking meaningful connections-whether it is with nature, people, or ideas. I love deep conversations and I think that curiosity about the human experience really defines who I am.
