Get to know Emmett

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

As a disabled Army veteran, I know what it feels like to face life's toughest battles—internally and externally. I became a therapist to help others find the strength within themselves to heal, grow, and thrive. My own experiences with trauma, transition, and resilience inspire me to walk alongside those navigating similar challenges. Helping people turn pain into purpose is deeply personal to me.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work best with individuals who are ready to do the work—those who may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or misunderstood but are open to growth and transformation. I connect especially well with veterans, men exploring emotional vulnerability, individuals experiencing major life transitions, and those healing from trauma, burnout, or anxiety.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I'm most excited to work with clients who are courageous enough to confront the hard truths, even when it's uncomfortable. Whether it’s someone stepping into therapy for the first time or someone returning after years, I’m passionate about helping people rediscover their voice, set boundaries, and rewrite their story.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

You are not broken. You are responding to life in the best way you’ve known how. Healing isn’t about fixing who you are—it’s about remembering who you’ve always been underneath the hurt. There’s strength in seeking help, and no shame in starting again.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

Thriveworks stands for accessibility, excellence, and putting clients first. I chose Thriveworks because I believe in meeting people where they are with compassion, professionalism, and real-world support. The collaborative and mission-driven environment here aligns with my values as a therapist and as a veteran.

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by the human capacity to adapt and overcome. Watching clients take small, courageous steps toward healing and peace—especially when it’s been a long time coming—fuels everything I do.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

You can expect a welcoming space with no pressure to have it all figured out. The first session is all about building trust, understanding your story, and identifying what matters most to you. We’ll talk about what brought you in, your goals, and how we’ll move forward together.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I want clients to leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and supported. My goal is to build a strong therapeutic foundation, clarify what they hope to gain from therapy, and outline a path we’ll walk together.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

I lead with empathy, but I also believe in honesty, accountability, and growth. I’m not here to judge—I’m here to help you make sense of your experiences and empower you with tools for real change. I bring a mix of personal lived experience and clinical knowledge into the room.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I enjoy lifting weights, coaching others through life transitions, spending time with my wife and daughters, and creating educational content on mental health and resilience. I also love a good book or podcast on leadership and personal development.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

Resilience. I came to the U.S. as a refugee with a sixth-grade education, served in the military, and rebuilt my life after trauma. Through it all, I’ve learned that your past doesn’t define you—your response to it does.
