About Emily
I am a therapist, who is being supervised by Christopher Hansen LPC-S, with a B.A. in Psychology from Texas A&M University and an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio. My professional journey began in the nonprofit sector, where I recognized a gap in access to quality mental health care and was inspired to further my education to better serve those in need. I work with older adolescents, young adults, and individuals in later adulthood navigating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and other concerns. I strive to help each person feel understood while we work together toward personal growth.
My approach is tailored to each client's unique needs. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), person-centered, and trauma-focused approaches to provide care that's responsive. I believe meaningful progress happens within a collaborative relationship and creates lasting change that feels aligned with your goals.
I know how much courage it takes to open up and begin this process. I also know how important it is to feel genuinely seen, heard, and met with empathy. You deserve that kind of space. Therapy can be a powerful opportunity to create meaningful change in your life, and you don't have to do it alone. When you're ready, we can take that first step together.

"As an individual with personal experiences of grief and trauma, I understand the necessity for a deep sense of empathy, understanding, and compassion in my work with each client. "

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
After graduating from undergrad, I worked in a nonprofit setting with students and adults from a wide range of backgrounds. During that time, I noticed a clear gap in access to quality mental health care. Recognizing this need inspired me to return to school and develop the skills necessary to help bridge that gap.
My work with adolescents, teens, and adults continues to guide my commitment to providing thoughtful, accessible, and compassionate care to those who need it most.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
One thing I wish all clients knew about the healing process is that it isn’t linear. Each person’s life experiences shape a unique story, influencing how they understand themselves and the world around them. Therapy can be challenging work, and progress doesn’t always happen in a straight line—but that’s a natural part of growth.
My role is to walk alongside you in that process. Together, we create a space grounded in safety, understanding, and trust, where you can explore, reflect, and take meaningful steps toward healing at your own pace.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
The first few sessions are all about getting to know you and creating a space where you feel comfortable, safe, and understood. Starting therapy can feel intimidating, and as someone who has been a client myself, I truly understand how vulnerable that first step can be.
In our early work together, we’ll move at your pace. I’ll ask questions to better understand your experiences, what’s bringing you in, and what you hope to gain from therapy—but there’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready for. My goal is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you can begin to open up naturally.
We’ll also start identifying your goals and what meaningful change looks like for you. Just as importantly, these first sessions are a chance for you to get a feel for me and decide if this feels like the right fit. Building trust and connection is the foundation of effective therapy, and we’ll focus on establishing that together from the very beginning.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I tailor therapy to each client by recognizing that no two people have the same experiences, needs, or goals. From the beginning, I take time to understand your story, your strengths, and what meaningful change looks like in your life. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process, so I adapt my approach to fit you—not the other way around.
Collaboration is a central part of my work. Together, we explore different tools and interventions, and I remain flexible in adjusting our approach based on what feels most helpful and relevant to your daily life. Whether that means incorporating specific coping strategies, exploring patterns in your relationships, or focusing on practical skills, we work as a team to find what truly resonates with you.
I also recognize that your background, values, and “walk of life” play an important role in shaping what will be effective in therapy. Because of this, I intentionally adjust care to align with your unique circumstances, ensuring that what we do in session feels applicable, respectful, and supportive of who you are.
