I’m Derek Anderson, a Licensed Professional Counselor with a master’s degree and experience providing individual, couples, and family counseling. I work with teens and adults navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, stress, anger, and personal growth. I especially enjoy working with men, professionals, leaders, couples, and individuals seeking a safe, supportive space to gain clarity, strengthen relationships, develop healthier coping skills, and create meaningful change. I also offer faith-based counseling for clients who desire to incorporate their Christian faith into therapy.

My approach is warm, practical, and collaborative, using evidence-based methods such as CBT, DBT, person-centered therapy, and solution-focused therapy. I help clients manage emotions, improve communication, set healthy boundaries, and develop effective coping skills. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for meaningful growth and healing.

You don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone. I believe meaningful change begins with feeling heard, understood, and supported. Wherever you are in your journey, I’m here to help you move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and hope. Take the next step toward positive change and schedule an appointment today.

"As a licensed professional counselor and servant leader, I believe that every person has the capacity for growth and healing, and I strive to create a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where clients can gain insight, develop practical skills, and move toward meaningful change. "

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I decided to become a counselor because I believe it is part of my calling. I have always felt drawn to helping others navigate difficult seasons, find hope, and recognize their own strength and potential. Counseling gives me the opportunity to walk alongside people, listen without judgment, and help them develop the tools and confidence to create meaningful change in their lives.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with teens and adults who are ready to grow, gain greater self-awareness, and make meaningful changes in their lives. I especially enjoy working with men, professionals, leaders, couples, and individuals navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, stress, anger, and personal growth. I also work with clients who desire to incorporate their Christian faith into the counseling process.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I wish every client knew that seeking counseling is not a sign of weakness it is a sign of courage. Healing is a process, not a quick fix, and you do not have to have everything figured out before you begin. With support, self-awareness, and a willingness to grow, meaningful change is possible.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In our first session, clients can expect a warm, welcoming, and judgment-free environment where we focus on building trust and understanding what brought you to counseling. We’ll discuss your concerns, goals, strengths, and what you hope to accomplish. In the early stages of therapy, we’ll work together to develop practical strategies and a personalized plan to support your growth and healing.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My practice is grounded in faith, compassion, servant leadership, and a genuine desire to help others. My personal experiences have taught me the importance of perseverance, accountability, healthy relationships, and having a safe space to be heard without judgment. These values shape my approach to therapy and my commitment to meeting each client with empathy, respect, and understanding.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I tailor therapy by first taking time to understand each client’s unique experiences, concerns, strengths, values, and goals. I use evidencebased approaches such as CBT, DBT, personcentered, and solutionfocused therapy based on what best fits the individual. I collaborate with clients to develop practical strategies that support their needs, growth, and healing.
