Get to know Christopher

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I spend 24 years in the military and during that time as a leader I realized so many people would not ask for help because they were scared for their careers. At time passed I realized as a leader that the part of my role I loved most was interacting with the people and helping my charges through rough patches in their lives and careers. Before I retired I realized that I had a real love for helping people through their life challenges (specifically my veteran brothers and sisters) and wanted to continue that after I retired. Many years have passed and I genuinely love what I do and moreover the people I am privileged to serve every day.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I love working with veterans and their families, couples, individuals, groups etc. Everybody is an individual and each bring a unique aspect to what we do and I love that about my job and genuinely enjoy and do well with a very large, diverse people.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am always excited to work with clients who are willing to really engage in therapy and participate in their treatment.

What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?

Seeking help because you are having challenges is not a weakness but in fact a great strength. Take a leap of faith, you have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I like the collaborative approach they embody and the support they give their personnel. I also like the autonomy that practicing with Thriveworks allows me.

What inspires you?

People

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

The first session is a get to know each other session with historical intake information. The most important thing in therapy is the therapeutic bond so I talk at length about that with the patient because I want to ensure they are with someone they feel comfortable with and trust so that we can get real work done on whatever their challenges are.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I love to ride my motorcycle, play drums, cook and my Dobermans.

What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

My family.
