Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider
My experience with mental health began early in life, as my grandmother faced significant challenges that necessitated long-term care in a mental health facility. Following my service in the military, I pursued a degree in counseling with the intention of reducing stigma and providing support for individuals experiencing conditions such as anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, and social anxiety, as well as those seeking guidance. My goal is to offer effective therapeutic skills, including mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance, to assist clients in addressing their needs.
What types of clients do you work best with?
Someone who is ready to do the work, seeks insight and is curious, feels a personal connection, is honest and provides feedback to create an even stronger bond, and is open to different perspectives.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Selecting an appropriate therapist and recognizing your autonomy over discussion topics are key elements of effective treatment. Maintaining honesty within the therapeutic relationship is essential, as it fosters an environment where all emotions can be openly expressed.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
The initial session will consist of an assessment involving an open dialogue designed to gather key information essential for your treatment plan and future sessions. I devote time to understanding your background and sharing relevant information about myself, so we can determine whether our therapeutic relationship is well-suited to your needs.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My goal is to support individuals in their personal growth and development throughout their lifespan. I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds and utilize a multicultural approach that recognizes the value and individuality of every person. I am committed to advocating for fairness and equity within society, while maintaining the trust and integrity essential to the therapist-client relationship. I strictly adhere to professional standards and consistently act with integrity.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
Assess the client’s background, concerns, goals, and preferences. Consider their cultural context and values to better understand factors affecting therapy engagement. Review trauma or attachment history and other relevant influences. Foster open communication by outlining therapeutic options and aligning treatment with client preferences.
