About Amy M

I am Amy Jones, a nationally certified Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, cross-licensed in Washington. I'm a Licensed School Psychologist in Texas, as well as a clinical psychology student at the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB). I have over 15 years of experience in education across K–12 campuses and more than four years of counseling experience in both school and private practice settings. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and teens, and supports clients facing depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, addiction, life transitions, low self-esteem, career challenges, and stress.

I utilize evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy to provide compassionate, developmentally appropriate care and help clients become the best version of themselves.

My therapeutic goal is to empower individuals to help themselves by building insight, resilience, and practical coping skills.

Get to know Amy M

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I enjoy knowing that I can use my empathy and compassion to offer them support in challenging times. I believe I have many valuable skills that can help me succeed as a mental health counselor, and I'm excited about pursuing this profession so I can help others with their mental health issues.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I enjoy working with clients of all different ages and stages of life, I have the most experience with children from my days as an educator and school counselor. But I invite anyone to join me in their therapeutic journey.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I want all my clients to know that I am genuinely here to help you.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

Thriveworks is flexible with scheduling my sessions, the wonderful benefits package that they offer, and the supervision provided by my direct supervisor and my regional supervisor.

What inspires you?

Inspiration can come from various things like traveling, learning new things, and also from people, be it historical figures, family members, mentors, and especially clients I meet and work with.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Your first session will involve your therapist asking you a lot of questions about yourself, how you cope, and your symptoms (it's basically an interview). You may also chat about goals for therapy, expectations, and more.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

Before diving into the session I'm going to want to get a good understanding of who you are and your history. This could include things like information about your family, relationships, friends, education, and employment history

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

I will begin with orienting the client to the consultation session, Focused diagnostic evaluation, Providing feedback to the client, Sharing your initial plan (let the client know that you can help them), and finally I will Answering the client's questions (giving them a choice to schedule for follow-up with you).

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I like to work out, hang out with my children, husband, and grandchildren, and just enjoy life.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

My perseverance
