Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I became a counselor to help others and to continue learning what it means to be alive. I know what it is like to feel lost and struggle alone. I also know what it is to reach out and ask for help. We get a lot further down the road walking together. I choose to be a counselor because I enjoy helping people find their way.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I have worked with clients from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, socioeconomic status, professions, and experiences. I am excited to work with anyone who is willing to be honest and wants to heal, learn, and grow. I am skilled working with people who struggle with grief and loss, role changes, health issues, terminal illness, anxiety, depression, career changes, and those in care giving roles. I am not experienced with people who are perpetrators, have violent behaviors towards people or animals, nor people struggling with sexual dysfunction/disorders.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I want everyone to know that you are not alone and you are capable of finding the inner strength and wisdom needed to create a meaningful life.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I choose to practice at Thriveworks because the online platform enables me have a flexible schedule as well as a supportive environment.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In our first session, you can expect me to listen. I want to hear your story and see how I might be of help. I will ask background questions, learn about your therapy goals, as well as identify your support system.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
The first session will be used to assess if we are a good fit and might work well together. We also want to ensure we can identify your goals and your definition of a success. I use a holistic approach and will want to know what effort you have already made towards your goals. Please be prepared to share your history, any past or current medical diagnosis, medications, and to identify any limitations that may hinder your work effort.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I am a wife and mother, so I enjoy being with my family. I love animals as well, so when I'm not with my family or working with clients, I'm usually looking after a multitude of four and two legged critters. I enjoy making and viewing art, reading, listening to audio books/podcasts, walking anywhere near a waterway, hiking, camping, biking, playing games, working puzzles, and swimming.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am very curious and I always look for the flowers that are tough enough to grow through cracks in the sidewalk.
