Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become a counselor because I wanted to be the helper, the person someone knows they can come to and who will listen without judgment, that I could have benefited from having when I was younger.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients ranging in age from 12 to young adult. I have most of my experience working with youth in a residential setting who struggled with anger management and behavioral issues.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
That we all go through difficult experiences in life, some more severe than others, but it's not a competition and it doesn't mean there's something wrong with you. Therapy is a place to be able to freely express your thoughts and feelings without worry about judgment from others.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose Thriveworks because I wanted to return to the outpatient world after working residential for almost 3.5 years, and Thriveworks provides me that opportunity as well as the opportunity to expand my experience to helping adults as well as kids.
What inspires you?
My faith and my daughter. They are my driving forces.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
A conversation. I like to spend time getting to know my clients and letting them know a little about me so that they feel welcomed and comfortable.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
My biggest goal is to make my clients feel welcomed, comfortable, and like they are talking with someone who they can relate to and trust.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I usually just do kid stuff with my daughter, but outside of that I like to spend time downtown and in coffee shops, go to the movies, and read novels and comic books. I'm a big Marvel and Star Wars fan!
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Being a father.
