About Robert
Hello, I am Robert Kirby, a clinical social worker. I've worked as a clinician in the mental health field since 2001 and became a licensed clinician in 2003. Over the years, I've worked as a clinical social worker (therapist) in medical care practices, in in-patient programs for drug rehab and psychiatric care, and as a therapist for elderly clients in nursing homes, as well as with families whose loved ones are in hospice care. I believe everyone has the ability to achieve their goals with the right help and the willingness to work at it. Taking that first step toward change is the hardest step to make.
When choosing a therapist, think about what you're looking for. I challenge you to think in new ways, like asking questions about your questions or playing devil's advocate. If you're up for a challenge, I'll support your work toward your goals. Each client connects differently, so I use varied techniques in session and homework to help therapy succeed.
Working with me will bring you the success you want, as long as you're doing the work needed too. No success is achieved without hard work. I look forward to being your guiding hand as you move through the process of your therapeutic work.

"I feel I will be able to help a variety of individuals achieve their goals through therapy because of the experience I bring through years of work and personal life experiences I have gone through on my own or with my family."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I could answer this by saying because I like to help people, but it is more than that. It is more complex then just helping someone. Being a therapist helps someone by being a sounding board sometimes and sometimes it is being more of a guiding hand down the dark path of change. I decided to become a therapist so that I could be someone, someone else would be feel comfortable to trust helping them with some of their toughest discussions and life choices.
What types of clients do you work best with?
Adults and older teens who are interested in making the steps to help themselves with the guidance of me as their therapist.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
It is not a one session and all is better type world, it takes time and it takes patience.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Building a connection between each other so they are comfortable working on the harder elements later.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I am a son, a brother, a husband, and a father (placed in order of how they happened in my life, not in order of importance). I have gone through many changes and struggles throughout my own personal life and seen the struggles the family members around me have worked through. Life is not easy. I have seen loved ones struggle through depression, anxiety, LGBTQA+, generational trauma, and many unfortunate grief situations.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I bring all of my years of learning, training, and working in the field to each individual to see what is needed for them to make their experience unique for them.
