Hello! I’m Renee Sefchick, a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counseling Associate in North Carolina. I enjoy working with adults and couples navigating anxiety, high stress, career concerns, low self-esteem, divorce, separation, relationship challenges, and significant life transitions. I also enjoy working with teenagers on self-confidence, strong routines, middle and high school troubles, and family transitions. I am passionate about helping clients develop healthy boundaries, strengthen communication, and recognize unhealthy patterns that may be keeping them feeling stuck.
As a woman who has experienced divorce and personal trauma, I am passionate about supporting adults navigating change, trauma, and everyday anxieties. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and empowered. I incorporate CBT, Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and mindfulness-based interventions.
I believe that healing and personal growth are possible, even during life’s most difficult seasons. My goal is to help clients feel supported as they work toward greater self-understanding, emotional well-being, and meaningful, lasting change.

"As a woman who has experienced divorce and personal trauma, I am passionate about supporting adults to feel safe and supported as they navigate the change, trauma and the anxiety of life."
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I was called to become a counselor after navigating my own personal struggles in childhood and through divorce and single parenthood. I care about guiding others through difficulties and providing a safe space to allow clients to explore their own struggles.
What types of clients do you work best with?
Children ages 8-11, Teens, Adults and Couples.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
It works! Consistence, commitment and compassion to oneself yields success in therapy.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Your first therapy session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a trusting therapeutic relationship. Starting therapy can sometimes feel overwhelming or intimidating, especially when discussing personal experiences, relationships, or difficult life transitions. My goal is to create a comfortable, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel safe being yourself. During our first session, we will discuss what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, personal history, and what you hope to accomplish through counseling. We will explore your strengths, identify areas where you would like support, and begin discussing goals for your therapeutic journey. You do not need to have everything figured out or know exactly where to begin. There is no expectation that you share everything during our first meeting. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Therapy is a collaborative process, and your voice, experiences, and goals matter. My hope is that you leave your first session feeling heard, supported, and encouraged as we begin working together toward greater self-understanding, emotional wellness, and meaningful change.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I am a child of divorce and have been divorced myself as a young mother with two toddlers. I was a single mother for 12 years before remarrying and understand the difficulties of navigating those circumstances of life. Additionally, my children are 21 and 19 and so I am able to build rapport with teens, young adults, and children. I also have extensive knowledge of a separate industry from therapy which allows me to assist adults with life and career transitions.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
Every client brings a unique set of experiences, challenges, strengths, and goals into the therapeutic relationship. My approach is individualized and collaborative, allowing me to tailor treatment to each client's specific needs, comfort level, and desired outcomes. I take time to understand each client's personal history, current circumstances, relationships, and the experiences that have shaped their perspectives. Together, we identify treatment goals and explore therapeutic approaches that best support their individual journey. I incorporate evidencebased practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and traumainformed approaches, depending on the client's needs and readiness. Some clients benefit from developing practical coping strategies, while others may need space to process trauma, explore relationship patterns, strengthen communication, establish boundaries, or build selfconfidence. I remain flexible in my approach and adjust interventions as clients progress and their needs evolve.
