Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I am passionate about helping people. Being a part of the positive change in an individual's life is really rewarding and I feel privileged for the role I am able to play in that process.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients with a variety of challenges and desired goals. I am generally laid back and strive to be authentic with my clients. I find I work best with individuals that are also able to be their authentic selves
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I really enjoy working with clients to identify the outcome they want to achieve and collaborating on how to make that outcome a reality. I think that sometimes being asked what we want can be a difficult question. Working with individuals to explore that is something that I find really rewarding.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
It's normal to not know where to begin. Clients sometimes feel pressure to know exactly what they want to accomplish in counseling or know where to start, but that isn't my expectation. Taking the first step coming to the appointment and trying to be open to the experience is enough. The rest we can figure out as we work together.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I have been practicing in the Greenville area for a few years and I wanted to be able to work with more people. With the resources provided by Thrive works, I have the opportunity to connect with more clients and have a multi-disciplinary team to collaborate in assisting them
What inspires you?
The perseverance I see in others on a regular basis. The hardship others live through and still decide to move forward. Change is a scary thing, but in some cases it is far less scary than the prospect of things staying the same. When people embrace that change, I find that inspiring.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I primarily will be getting to know you. What are your challenges and what support you have in navigating these challenges. We will explore what priorities you have in pursuing counseling and what the initial steps will be to accomplish the goals you have.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
My main goal initially is to get to know you. I don't expect clarity on your goals or for the client to come in and be an open-book. The first session is about building rapport and for the client to get to know me.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am generally laid back and not overly clinical. I enjoy meeting people and getting to be a part of their journey towards positive change. I find the best way to achieve that is to be authentic in who I am and encouraging my clients to do the same.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
My fiance and I both love animals. So much so that If I decided to step away from counseling, we could likely open a successful petting zoo. When I am not tending to the animals we have, I have a wide range of hobbies like video games, comics, wood working and reading.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I would like to think one of defining traits would be determination, but I'm sure my loved ones would characterize it as stubbornness. I take time to throw myself into things, but once I do, I do so fully.
