About Deshandra

I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and nationally certified counselor (NCC). I received my Bachelor of Science in psychology from Charleston Southern University and my Master of Science in clinical mental health counseling, including a Graduate Certificate in Contemporary Theory in Mental Health Services, from Capella University. I have worked in the mental health field since 2013. I have worked with military/veterans, geriatrics, teens, children, LGBTQ community, PTSD, anxiety, grief, eating disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, schizophrenia, substance abuse, first-time mothers, job development, and anger management. 

I foster a client-centered CBT and DBT approach. I am certified in CBT for depression and suicide, DBT, CAMS-Care, ASIST, IPS, and anger management. I believe creating a safe and nonjudgmental space and building a genuine rapport is essential to aiding individuals in reaching personal goals. I base my services on the ACA Code of Ethics and state laws.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I enjoy assisting patient's work towards individualized treatment goals and I love the continued growth of the mental health profession. I am always learning something new to grow in knowledge and skill.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

Once you understand how someone think you understand their behavior.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

To gain an in dept understanding of the counseling process and learn about me as the counselor.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider? 

I believe in affordable quality care. I also believe in creating a safe and nonjudgmental space and building a genuine rapport is essential to aiding individuals in reaching personal goals to improve the quality of life. I also strongly base my services on the ACA Code of Ethics and State laws and regulations.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs? 

I build a rapport with patients and meet all patients where they are.
