About Provider

About Brittany

Brittany Aiken is a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 3 years of experience in mental health. She currently specializes in helping people dealing with symptoms of depression and anxiety due to various life changes. She creates a safe environment for you to talk about the things that are going on, assists you in determining what your goals for therapy are, and, through collaboration, helps you figure out changes that will work to accomplish those goals. During your time together, you and Brittany will build a rapport that will make you feel comfortable sharing, supported, and enthusiastic about the changes you've made.

Brittany utilizes a holistic approach, incorporating different techniques that may be beneficial to your personal needs. Additionally, she implements cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, person-centered techniques, and culturally sensitive therapy techniques.

Therapy is not a "one size fits all" type of situation. You are unique and your needs should be addressed based on you only. In order for therapy to be effective, you must be committed to the process and open to trying new things.

Get to know Brittany

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I've always been a good listener and aim to create a non-judgmental atmosphere so that others feel comfortable talking to me. I've always been told that I have a calming energy. So, in helping others, someone told me something I said changed their life. That was my defining moment to take counseling seriously.

What types of clients do you work with best?

There's no one client I prefer over the other however, for therapy to be beneficial for the client, one must be open to the process and committed to the changes required to accomplish their goals.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I'm excited to work with anyone who is open to the process and willing to take accountability for their change.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

Comparison is the thief of joy. Find what makes you happy and strive to be your best you.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I choose to work at Thriveworks because of how supportive they were before I was offered a position with the company. They've respected me as a person and have given me an opportunity to gain experience and expand as a counselor.

What inspires you?

My inspiration comes from wanting to provide a better life for my family, mainly my children. Showing them that you don't have to live by society's standards to be at peace or successful has been my driving force.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In our first session, I take the time to get to know the client and figure out their why or why now. I aim to create a trusting, nonjudgemental relationship and relaxing atmosphere, one where the client feels comfortable expressing their feelings, thoughts, and concerns.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

Within the first session, the goal is to get background information on the client and set goals for our time together.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

I am very laid back. The only way I can see the real you is if you trust that I have your best interest in mind. Because of that, I want the client to be comfortable engaging with me during our time together. You are the expert in our relationship. My goal is to support you in achieving your goals.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening, meditating, being in nature, doing art projects, building things, and many more activities.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I'm a helper and enjoy helping others.
