Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I became a counselor because, growing up, I knew I wanted to help make a difference in people’s lives in some way. I realized through interactions with friends and family that I was a great listener and enjoyed helping people navigate the different obstacles they encountered. As I learned more about the mental health field, I realized this would be a perfect fit for my skillset and would provide a way for me to empower and support others.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are either ready to make some changes or considering making changes. Change can be daunting, but once you've decided or even thought about it, we can work together to make it happen!
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
That everyone struggles and they are not alone. A lot of times people get stuck in their heads thinking no one can understand what they are going through and so why bother asking for help? I hope clients know that no matter what they are going through, there are people willing and able to help.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In your first session, I'm going to be honest, you should expect a lot of questions. It can be initially overwhelming, but all the questions are important for me to get to know you and know more about what you are seeking from counseling.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I hope that we are able to determine if we will be a good fit for each other and start discussing some goals for treatment moving forward.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
In my free time, I like to travel, try new restaurants, hang out with friends and family, and spend time with my dog.
