Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become a counselor because I believe in the power of representation and validation. It's crucial to me that clients see themselves reflected in their therapist, ensuring that their unique experiences are understood and honored. I firmly believe that every individual, regardless of their background or struggles, deserves to be heard and to have their experiences validated. Becoming a counselor allows me to create a safe and empathetic space where clients can find solace and support, knowing that their journey is valid and their voice matters.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work most effectively with adults who are prepared and motivated to embark on a journey of introspection and personal growth. My approach thrives when clients are ready to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, enabling us to collaborate and navigate their path to healing and self-discovery together.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with birthing people and caregivers. I find immense value in the opportunity to provide a voice and language to the unique and often complex experiences they navigate. Supporting and empowering these individuals through their journeys is deeply rewarding, and I am enthusiastic about the positive impact we can create together.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
One thing I wish all clients knew is that they are just as much experts in their own lives as I am in the therapeutic process. Their lived experiences hold immense value and significance in our work together, and I believe that their insights and perspectives are crucial components of their journey toward healing and personal growth.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because of their unwavering commitment to providing high-quality mental health care. Thriveworks shares my values of accessibility, professionalism, and client-centered care, and I am inspired by their dedication to fostering an environment where clients can thrive and therapists can deliver their best work. This alignment of values made it a natural choice for me to join the Thriveworks team and continue my mission of helping individuals on their journey to well-being.
What inspires you?
What inspires me most is advocating for Black people and supporting birthing people. The resilience and strength I see in these communities are a constant source of inspiration. Additionally, my passion for learning and exploring the complexities of the human experience keeps me motivated and committed to continuous growth as a therapist.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In our first session together, clients can expect a warm and welcoming environment where they are encouraged to share their story and their goals. We'll begin by building a foundation of trust and understanding. I'll actively listen and ask questions to better understand their unique experiences and concerns. Together, we will establish a collaborative and client-centered approach to therapy, where their needs and preferences guide our journey toward healing and personal growth. By the end of the session, clients can anticipate having a clearer sense of our therapeutic relationship and a framework for our work ahead.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session with an individual, my primary goal is to establish a strong therapeutic alliance built on trust, respect, and collaboration. I aim to create a safe and non-judgmental space where the client feels comfortable sharing their concerns, goals, and experiences. By the end of the first session, I want the client to leave with a sense of hope, validation, and a clear understanding of our therapeutic approach and goals. Ultimately, I hope to set the foundation for productive and meaningful work together as we embark on their journey toward healing and personal growth.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Before scheduling a first counseling session with me, clients should know that I am deeply committed to their well-being and growth. I am not here to "fix" them as they are not broken. I approach therapy with empathy, respect, and a client-centered focus, meaning that their needs, values, and goals will guide our work together. Additionally, I have a strong passion for advocating for marginalized communities, including Black individuals and birthing people, and I bring a culturally sensitive perspective to my practice. I encourage open communication and collaboration in our therapeutic relationship and look forward to partnering with clients on their journey toward healing and self-discovery.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
For fun and during my time off, I enjoy a variety of activities that allow me to unwind and recharge. I'm an avid fan of attending concerts, immersing myself in the joy of live music. Exploring new vegan restaurants is another passion of mine; I appreciate the culinary creativity in plant-based dining. Additionally, I find solace and rejuvenation in spending time in nature, whether it's hiking, camping, or simply taking long walks in natural settings. These activities not only provide relaxation but also help me stay balanced and inspired.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
One defining aspect of who I am outside of my professional life is my love for adventure and joy. I find immense fulfillment in seeking out new experiences, exploring diverse cultures, and embracing moments of happiness and wonder in everyday life. This passion for adventure fuels my curiosity and zest for life, shaping my perspective and approach to the world around me.
