Get to know Tyler

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I became a counselor because I know what it's like to feel isolated and different than your peers. I want to be the support for others that I once needed myself. After surviving a childhood brain injury, I consider myself lucky to be in position to help others. Although I face daily adversity, I have added many creative coping skills in order to thrive. I also became a counselor because of my experience being a Division 1 athlete. In college, I personally witnessed the disconnect between mental health resources and the needs of high-school and collegiate athletes. I am especially passionate about helping young athletes with sport and performance psychology.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work best with clients who are motivated to better understand themselves and are open to exploring the maladaptive patterns that may be holding them back. This includes young adults facing life transitions, individuals in early recovery from substance use, and those managing anxiety, trauma, or identity-related challenges. I strive to meet clients where they are with curiosity, empathy, and evidence-based tools.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I'm most excited to work with individuals who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about their future but are ready to do the work to grow. I am passionate about supporting adolescents and young adults who struggle with vulnerability, emotional regulation, or loneliness—topics I’ve studied and experienced personally. It’s an honor to help clients rediscover their purpose and identity.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish all clients knew that therapy does not mean that you have to have everything figured out. Therapy only requires the courage to show up.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I chose Thriveworks because of its team atmosphere, client access, and because we have a strong support system for clinicians. Thriveworks empowers providers to focus on what matters most—building meaningful connections with clients and facilitating real change.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the human ability to grow and change - even through adversity. I am also inspired by my client's willingness to be vulnerable, show up authentically as themselves, and trust the process.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Clients can expect a warm, respectful, and open space where they are invited to be themselves—without any judgment. We'll take time to understand your goals, explore what's been going on in your life, and collaboratively decide how we want to move forward in a way that feels safe and supportive.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

In the first session, my goal is to build trust and connection. I want to help you feel heard and understood, while learning about some challenges that you may face in your everyday life. We’ll outline initial goals and talk about what therapy can look like for you personally.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

In my free time, I enjoy staying active — playing squash, tennis, pickeball, running and boxing. I also love spending time with my family, friends, my dog, and catching up on documentaries and podcasts that explore sports, psychology, resilience, and human behavior.
