Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I decided to become a counselor to be the person that I needed when I was in high school.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I will try my best to support any client that walks in my door and if I am not a good match, I will help you find someone that is better for you.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with individuals that are motivated and ready to collaborate and improve their lives.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
Going to therapy does not mean you are "crazy." It means that you want better for yourself and learn how to handle your feelings and thoughts. There is a meme that says, "people in therapy are often in therapy to deal with the people in their lives who won't go to therapy."
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because it allowed me to explore a different population. My background is in community mental health and working at Thriveworks has allowed me to spread my wings and explore a new area.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by the research of Brene Brown. I was first exposed to her in a Tedtalk, "The power of vulnerability." She is one that I often reference and my favorite quote is: "What we don't need in the midst of struggle is shame for being human. We aren't meant to be perfect humans. We are meant to be messy, work through confusion, learn, adapt, get lost along the way. The conversation changes when we bring self-compassion and empathy into the situation".
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect to answer lots of questions and review paperwork/policies! I will want to know what led you to therapy, what symptoms or struggles you are having, will ask about your relationships, interests and strengths. While you are distracted answering questions, I will be working to form a connection with you and establish a genuine relationship with you.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In a first session, I hope to understand what lead you to therapy, begin to establish rapport and begin to develop a great working relationship. In addition, we have to review all the paperwork stuff including the policies and procedures.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love to spend time baking, time with my nieces and nephews, hiking and enjoy art.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I volunteer for Make a Wish and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in my personal time. I also usually am wearing animal print.
