Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a therapist because when I was in the military, I frequently saw women soldiers experience many forms of emotional, verbal and sexual abuse and there was little or no help for them. Frequently, they provided support for each other and often they would come to me, to talk and/or for comfort, therefore I decided that I wanted to help others heal from emotional pain. Therefore, upon my discharge from the military, I used my GI Bill to begin my educational preparation to become a therapist.
