Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I've had an interest in understanding people from the time I was very young. I believe I coped with my childhood trauma by trying to understand and figure things out. The more I learned, the more curious I became. At a certain point I realized that by offering what we have learned through our own struggles, we don't waste our pain...we use it for good.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I enjoy working with people who are willing to explore the happy and the sad, knowing that there is no way around our questions and problems, only through. I enjoy individuals who are willing to stick with the work to get to the other side, finding freedom and peace.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Trusting, open-minded people who enjoy a sense of humor, and those who don't mind that I like to draw diagrams or pictures when I'm explaining things.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
That everyone you encounter will face a battle or battles in their lifetime. People are walking around with things in their lives you wouldn't believe...and they look perfectly "normal." No one is exempt, and you are never alone. Oh, and I'm the least judgmental person you know.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose Thriveworks because they support what I love to do while creating an environment that makes it possible for me to focus on what really matters.
What inspires you?
People who look for opportunities to grow, even in the difficult circumstances.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
You can expect to have my undivided attention and presence as you decide whether you would like to start by answering 1) What brings you to therapy at this time? -or- 2) Give me some history of you life, family, career, etc., that helps me understand who you are and what you're hoping for by starting therapy at this time?
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I'd like to get a snapshot of what really matters to you and what you need to be different in your life for that to happen.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Please be in a private space that you will feel available to speak openly and comfortably. And please remember your scheduled appointment times! I consider it a privilege when others allow me to accompany them on their journey of hope, healing and life improvement.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I spend time with my 2 grandsons (ages 5 and 2 1/2) I love gardening, nature, concerts, painting, sewing and my little rescue dog, Daisy.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My creativity and humor (that's 2!)
