Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I wanted to become a counselor because I have been positively impacted by counselors and therapists in my own life. My grandmother passed away when I was six years old, I took it very hard and my parents have always encouraged speaking about feelings and emotions and they had me see a therapist. Throughout my life I sought out therapy when needed and I have always wanted to be that person for someone since the impact it had on me was so beneficial.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Clients who are struggling with anxiety and mood disorders have been a specialty of mine after extensive training with DBT and CBT.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with anyone who is willing to go on this journey to bettering and finding themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish that clients knew that therapy is not a "magic wand" to fix all problems. It takes work and motivation to face challenging feelings and emotions and it will be a process that takes time but it is always worth it.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose Thriveworks because of the amazing staff that work here as well as the work/life balance. Being able to make my own schedule allows me to spend time with my loved ones as well as decrease burn out and ultimately I will be a better therapist because of it.
What inspires you?
My family inspires me, especially my parents. I am very fortunate to have parents that care about me and love me unconditionally. They have supported me in every walk of my life and I want to be the best O can be for them and my family.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In the first session, clients can expect a warm and welcoming environment. I firmly believe in building strong rapport and trust with my clients so I will get on their level and meet them where they are and what their needs are. I love getting to know them on a level beyond the reasons for therapy and making a connection that will establish a strong therapeutic relationship that will help them to achieving their goals.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to build and create rapport and make sure the session is calm and comfortable for them so that they feel safe to return for more sessions.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
When scheduling they should know that I will also be holding them accountable and setting some expectations and this is so that they achieve the best result from therapy. They should also know that I am extremely thorough and I love note taking. I will take notes during session so that I am focusing on what they say as well as it helps me remember things and that builds rapport. Something clients have told me before is that they appreciate my ability to remember details and that is done with note taking.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love spending time with my children, family and friends. I have 4 step children and they are my entire world. I also really love being outside and going to the gym with my partner.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Something that defines me as a person is my willingness to learn and grow as an individual, mother, partner, and friend. I am willing to admit when I am wrong or need to work on something and I will always have determination to do better.
