About Karl

Karl Vieweg, Licensed Associate Professional Counselor, has 3 years of experience supporting individuals managing depression, anxiety, trauma, anger management, mood disorders, grief/loss, and major life transitions. He values building strong client connections and uses a collaborative, person-centered approach that respects each individual’s unique experiences and cultural background.

Karl earned his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. He draws from dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other person-centered modalities to meet each client’s needs and goals in a safe, supportive therapeutic environment.

As someone who’s been through therapy myself, I understand how vulnerable it can feel to ask for help. I’m here to create a space where you feel safe, seen, and supported every step of the way. It would be an honor to walk with you on your path to clarity and emotional well-being.

Get to know Karl

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

Even before his training, Karl had a keen desire to help his community. He worked in various roles to support those he cared about, but found that the work he was most drawn to was on a person to person basis. After his own experiences in therapy, he was inspired to pursue his degree in clinical mental health counseling to continue to support the community.

What types of clients do you work with best?

The types of clients who Karl works best with are ones who seek change. If you have a desire for something healthier in your life, you already have one foot in the right direction, and Karl takes pleasure in helping others down that path.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

The clients Karl is most excited to work with clients who have never participated in therapy before. In Karl's eyes, to help open the door to healing for another person is one of the most fulfilling experiences a clinician can have.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

Karl wants all clients to know that he loves to laugh and believes it is essential to fostering a deeper connection in therapy. He wants clients to know that working with him is a safe, exploratory environment where no thoughts or ideas should be shoved aside. It's okay to feel foolish sometimes, therapy is a journey, and to deny yourself the ability to wonder is to stifle your growth.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

Karl chose to practice at Thriveworks because of their emphasis on client centered care and their practice of providing educational resources to their clinicians for better clinical practice.

What inspires you?

Karl is inspired by people who have experienced great hardships, but still have the desire to grow and find a way forward despite the pain. Karl is also inspired by music, nature, and poetry.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In a first session, clients can expect to explore where they feel they are struggling, and generally what motivated them to seek OP services.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

In a first session, Karl strives to get a sense of what the client wants to accomplish by participating in therapy and to get a general sense of their personality.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?

Clients looking to schedule a first session with Karl should know he's very flexible and willing to answer any questions they may have.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

During his time off, Karl enjoys working in his garden, growing various hot peppers, and cooking for his friends. Karl is also passionate about karaoke, and loves to sing songs by Scott Walker, Glenn Campbell, and Stevie Wonder (whether he does it well is up for debate).

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

One thing that defines Karl is his relationship with others. In all relationships, he strives to show kindness and compassion whenever he can, and be a friend that anyone can come to when in need.
