Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I spent the summer after my freshman year in college working as a summer camp counselor. I still enjoy getting to know and connecting with people.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I enjoy working with clients who have never been in therapy before and also those that are self-motivated and "seasoned" in therapy. The most important characteristic is having the desire and motivation to put in the work needed to grow toward your goals. My counseling style is conversational, so I do not "pull teeth", and work best when therapy is collaborative.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I really enjoy working with college students, those transitioning into the work-world, adults going through job or life transitions and wanting to find meaning and fulfillment, moms pre and postpartum, and those taking care of aging parents.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that the things others and you, yourself, have said to you to break you down are not the whole story.
What inspires you?
My faith, family, and friendships inspire me and give me motivation to keep moving forward.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect to walk through a background form together.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first or first couple of sessions, I want to better get to know who my client is, understand what brought them to therapy, and more clearly define what they want out of therapy.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love spending time with friends, finding a new coffee shop to read, laugh, and have deep conversations in. I love finding new recipes and making older ones tastier. I also love to hike, exercise, learn, and spend time with my family of three.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am a Christian. My faith defines me and, I hope, guides how I live and treat others.
