Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I knew quite early in my career where my interests were. I was fascinated to learn why people behaved the way they did. Advocating for those who were unable to stand up for themselves motivates me. Most importantly, empathizing with and empowering my clients to make lasting, positive changes in their lives is truly rewarding.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have experience working with infants, children, teenagers, young and older adults. I learned about individuals with physical, intellectual, mood, behavioral and mental disorders. I specialize in sexual assault and other trauma, emotional regulation, goal setting, low self-esteem anxiety and depression. As a mother and former behavior specialist, I can work with parents struggling with children's behavioral issues. I have worked with clients with chronic conditions such as self injury, autism, ADHD, psychosis, generalized anxiety, and personality disorders.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I enjoy working with clients who are motivated and open to try new skills. When a client is really engaged in treatment therapy can have a major impact,
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish clients realized they are the ones who do the work to change their own lives. Therapy is a collaboration between two individuals - the client whom is an expert on their own lives and the therapist who has knowledge of techniques, is non-judgmental, and is emotionally supportive. It is a process.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks gives me the opportunity to meet people where they are. Online therapy allows clients to access services that time, transportation, or other barriers prevented. It gives me the flexibility to have work-live balance- something I advocate for my clients to have.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by clients who have the courage to come in for therapy. I think a person is very brave to be opening up to a stranger and admitting they need help. I am honored to be the one they trust.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
The first session is a time to develop a therapeutic relationship between myself and the client. Clients will identify strengths and challenges. We will discuss clients goals for being in treatment.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to develop a solid plan for what the client's goals are for treatment. I want to understand the client and work to start developing a strong therapeutic relationship.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I like to use humor in my work. I feel life is too short not to enjoy the journey.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I am a big nature lover. I enjoy spending time with my family camping, swimming, and rappelling.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Besides being a mother, I would have to say I'm a learner. I love to learn and try new things. I believe we grow as individuals by putting ourselves out there and being willing to risk failure.
