Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I believe in being with people in difficult times and helping them work on addressing challenges that hold them back from being happy. Change can be a painful process, and I don't believe anyone should have to go through it alone. Especially if what they need is someone to listen to them and be there for them.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are aware that they want to change something in their lives, but who may need help addressing what that change is.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who have a sense of humor.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that seeking mental health treatment is not a sign of weakness, but of strength. Collapsing beneath our burdens is not stronger than being willing to share that same burden. Being open and vulnerable is scary and I respect anyone willing to open up about what they're going through.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because of how supportive they are of their counselors and their clients. By supporting both we have the opportunity to have better outcomes in general. I also like that they offer weekend and evening hours, which allows me to the opportunity to meet with more people on their schedule.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by my clients and their ability to work through adversity. Their dedication to change despite how difficult change is in general reminds me of why I do this work. I am also inspired by watching people grow and change over time.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
My clients can expect a person-centered model where we work on developing a treatment plan to address what goals they want to work on. They can also expect a safe space where they can share whatever is on their mind without judgement or scorn. I strive for an open environment so that we can explore what led the client to seek services.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
By the end of the first session I would like to be able to have an idea of what brought an individual into treatment, what they would like to work on in the long-term, and one thing to work on between sessions: Be that a worksheet, a new coping skill, or discovering a new joke.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
What clients should know before scheduling a first counseling session with me, is that while I may joke around sometimes, I am 100% dedicated to helping my clients. I am willing to meet you where you are and work with you at your pace.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
In my free time I like to hang out with my cat, watching new Anime's or TV shows. I also write fiction in my free time, which is one of the reasons I like Narrative Therapy. I am just generally a nerd, and happy to be one.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My best defining trait is my tenacity. If when the going gets tough, I don't give up.
