Get to know Abigail

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I became a counselor to help people find their authentic selves and grow to their fullest potential.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work best with those who are interested in working on themselves, who are open to talking about change, and who are hesitant but may be willing to take a few safe risks.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I'm excited to work with anyone, but most with those excited to get the therapy process started.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

That I believe in them, and they are more capable than they know if they have survived this long.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

They have excellent support for their clients and providers to have therapy go efficiently and as seamlessly as possible.

What inspires you?

When people realize they are making the changes they sometimes tell me they can't.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

A thorough and respectful listener, someone who likes to use humor as a coping strategy when appropriate, and a full support ready to prepare for our next session and help you achieve your goals.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I want them to have a firm grasp of what counseling is and is not, and what they can expect of me as their counselor and count on Thriveworks as their provider. I want them to feel that I have the details necessary to help them form coping strategies and a plan of action, and I want to earn the trust of my clients regarding meeting their expectations.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

I am enthusiastic, but somehow come across as mellow, I like to get to know what's most important to you, and won't ask you to make a change until you're ready to make it.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I spend time with my family and I am a nature enthusiast.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I love to learn.
