About Donald
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 22 years of experience helping adults navigate anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, and relationship challenges. I work with clients who want to heal from the past, strengthen self-awareness, and create meaningful change in their lives. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in helping people reconnect with their resilience, purpose, and capacity for growth—one step at a time.
I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Portland State University. I integrate evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and strengths-based therapy to help clients build insight, develop coping skills, and create lasting change in a safe, supportive environment that promotes healing and balance.
I understand that seeking therapy takes courage, and I honor that first step toward healing. My goal is to walk beside you with empathy and respect as you rediscover your strength and create meaningful change. When you’re ready, I’d be honored to support you on your journey toward greater peace and self-understanding.

"As someone who has walked through deep personal transformation, loss, and renewal, I bring an authentic, compassionate understanding of how healing unfolds when we reconnect with our strength, purpose, and sense of self."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I became a counselor because I’ve seen—personally and professionally—how pain, loss, and major life transitions can transform us when we’re met with steady, compassionate support. Early in my career, working with people facing complex challenges taught me that everyone carries wisdom and resilience that can be rekindled. I chose social work to pair evidence-based care with deep humanity, advocacy, and respect for each person’s story. Helping clients feel seen, build practical skills, and create lasting change is both my purpose and my privilege.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with adults who are navigating significant life transitions, managing anxiety or depression, or working to rebuild after loss or burnout. My clients are often individuals who are self-aware, motivated for growth, and seeking clarity, healing, and purpose. I particularly connect with those who are exploring identity, self-worth, and meaning in the midst of change—people who are ready to do the inner work of understanding themselves and creating a more balanced, fulfilling life.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish all clients knew that healing is not a straight line—it’s a process of growth, self-discovery, and learning to meet yourself with compassion. Progress often happens in small, meaningful steps, and even the moments that feel difficult are part of the work. Therapy isn’t about “fixing” who you are—it’s about uncovering your strength, understanding your patterns, and creating space for genuine change and peace.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In our first session, clients can expect a welcoming and nonjudgmental space to share what’s bringing them to therapy. We’ll explore your goals, current challenges, and what you hope to gain from our work together. Early sessions often focus on building trust, understanding your story, and identifying patterns that may be keeping you stuck. From there, we’ll collaborate to create a plan that supports your healing and growth—at a pace that feels comfortable and meaningful for you.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My practice is deeply informed by my own experiences of transformation, loss, and renewal, as well as my journey as a gay man—both in my younger years and now as an older adult. I understand the importance of identity, acceptance, and belonging across different stages of life. These experiences have shaped my belief that healing begins with self-compassion and authenticity. I value empathy, resilience, and respect for each person’s story, and I strive to create a space where clients feel truly seen, supported, and empowered to grow into their most genuine selves.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I believe therapy should reflect each person’s individuality, not a one-size-fits-all approach. I take time to understand your background, values, and goals so we can shape the process together. I draw from approaches like CBT, mindfulness, and strengths-based therapy, integrating them in a way that fits your personality and pace. I listen closely to what resonates for you—whether that’s practical tools, emotional exploration, or quiet reflection—so our work feels collaborative, respectful, and aligned with your needs and hopes for change.
