About Mindy
Melinda “Mindy” Sponseller is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor LPCC) in Ohio and Kentucky with over 20 years experience working in the mental health field in some capacity, including therapy since 2006. Mindy has worked in a variety of settings including in-home, schools, private practice, and community mental health facilities assisting individuals overcome and deal with life's challenges. Her scope of practice includes general mental health issues (anxiety, depression, etc.), relationship issues, life transitions, work/life balance, career, grief, anger management, and more. Mindy completed her Bachelor of Arts (BA) at Morehead State University and her Master of Education (MEd) at Xavier University.
Mindy likes to meet her clients where they are, create goals, and work toward achieving those goals through establishing a therapeutic relationship. Her approach includes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), client-centered, and solution-focused modalities, but can be eclectic based on your needs. Mindy enjoys empowering her clients to work towards change and how challenges can be an opportunity for change and/or growth. She provides a safe, nonjudgmental environment for you to express emotions and deal with life's challenges. Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I have always had a passion for helping others and an interest in human behavior and psychology.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with motivated clients that are willing to accept a challenge and who are willing to change. I like clients that enjoy homework to assist with their journey between sessions.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Clients that are motivated and want to address their concerns/issues.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
That change is a process and does not happen over night.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I like their mission and the ability to help others and the ability supervise LPC's.
What inspires you?
My desire to help others learn and grow.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Someone that will listen to their story, ask questions and formulate goals.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to accomplish listening to why they are coming to counseling, what is bothering them, what do they want from counseling, what are their strengths and weaknesses and willingness to learn and change.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I have a great deal of experience with counseling and in the mental health field in general and have been doing individual counseling since 2008.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Travel, spend time with my boyfriend and kids, see live music, and spend time with friends.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am funny, caring, and outgoing.
