About Darren
I am a Licensed Social Worker with a Master of Social Work from Cleveland State University, I have completed extensive training in trauma, substance use, LGBTQ, domestic and intimate partner violence, human trafficking, gang culture, and healthy relationship dynamics, and I remain committed to ongoing professional development throughout my practice.
I draw from a range of evidence-based modalities including Solution-Focused Therapy, PersonCentered approaches, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Focused Therapy, and positive reinforcement, because I recognize that every individual's circumstances are unique, and I am dedicated to meeting clients where they are with patience, empathy, and clinical skill.
I bring a strengths-based, collaborative approach to therapy grounded in active listening and genuine curiosity about clients' unique needs, because I believe that when people feel truly heard and supported, they are empowered to work through challenges and reach the goals that matter most to them.

"In my life experience I believe patience is key and I come ready to truly see you and to not rush you because I believe meaningful change happens when we slow down, find solutions together, and build something real from exactly where you are right now. "

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor because I have always been drawn to helping people navigate difficult experiences and recognize their own strengths and resilience. Throughout my career, I have seen how meaningful it can be when individuals have a supportive, nonjudgmental space where they feel heard, understood, and empowered to make positive changes in their lives.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to better understand themselves, build healthier coping skills, and create meaningful change in their lives. At the same time, I recognize that people enter therapy at different stages of readiness, so I strive to meet clients where they are without any judgment.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
One thing I wish all clients knew is that healing is not a linear process. Growth often comes with setbacks, difficult emotions, and periods of uncertainty, but that does not mean you are failing or that therapy is not working. Meaningful change takes time, patience, and selfcompassion.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In the first session, clients can expect a welcoming, supportive, and judgment-free environment where we begin getting to know one another. I will spend time learning about what brought them to therapy, their current concerns, their personal history, and what they hope to achieve through the therapeutic process. I also want to understand their strengths, support systems, and any challenges they may be facing so that we can develop a clear picture of their unique needs.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My personal experiences have taught me the importance of having a supportive, nonjudgmental space during difficult times. Through both personal and professional experiences, I have seen how trauma, life stressors, relationship challenges, and systemic barriers can impact an individual's well-being. These experiences reinforced my belief that people are resilient and capable of growth when they feel heard, supported, and empowered. They also inspired me to pursue social work and dedicate my career to helping others navigate challenges and build on their strengths. As a therapist, I strive to bring empathy, authenticity, and curiosity into every session while meeting clients where they are and tailoring treatment to their unique needs.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I tailor therapy to each client's unique needs by taking the time to understand their personal experiences, strengths, challenges, goals, and individual circumstances. I recognize that each client requires an individualized approach based on their specific clinical needs and circumstances, which is why I use a collaborative, client-centered approach and draw from a variety of evidence-based modalities, including Solution-Focused Therapy, PersonCentered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Focused interventions, and positive reinforcement. Together, we identify goals and develop a treatment plan that aligns with the client's values, readiness for change, and specific concerns. Throughout the therapeutic process, I continuously assess what is working and make adjustments as needed, ensuring that clients feel heard, supported, and empowered while receiving care that is responsive to their evolving needs and goals.
