Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a Mental Health Provider because I felt that I could assist people with finding the strength that they need to overcome obstacles in their lives. We all need some guidance with finding a solution to our problems and someone who can empathize with us by gently guiding us toward selfdiscovery and recovery is a gift. I suffered from anxiety as a teenager and when I saw a therapist who helped me to understand my own issues by helping me build my strengths prepared me to understand myself better. Therapy helped me to heaI my emotional pain. I learned skills to adjust to the changes in my life. It made me stronger and more able to deal with the future. I wanted to be the therapeutic link for other people and help them recover.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with clients who may be going through an adjustment in their lives and are willing and open to change. In addition I like to help people who are having difficulties with cultural assimilation and may lack the knowledge about the system of a new country or of a new environment. I also work well with people who need help with transitioning to a different stage in their lives such as a divorce or with younger people transitioning through different developmental stages.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Clients should know that therapy is a process and that if you are open to change and learning about yourself you can heal and recover
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In their first session, clients would feel connected and understood., The client will feel part of their treatment by participating in creating a treatment plan based on what they need and what they want to accomplish in therapy. They will have a direction of their treatment and this will assist them with having control over their sessions and in their lives.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
In my own life, therapy has helped me to learn about my own issues and grow as a person. I have grown emotionally and became a stronger person as a result of attending therapy sessions when I was a teenager and undergoing personal problems in my life. Therapy helped me to understand myself better and I became a stronger person as a result. As a provider I know this process well and I help individuals with having more control over their own thinking and their own behavior patterns. They learn skills and techniques to deal with their issues more effectively which in turn improves the quality of their lives.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I tailor therapy to each individual's need based on the goals of the individual. I looked at the issues that the person is bringing to therapy and I tailor therapy by prioritizing their needs.
