My name is Jerermiah Acosta, LCSW. I have worked with children and teenagers for 6.5 years and with seniors for 2.5 years. I specialize in life transitions and building coping skills for your everyday needs. I take a back-to-basics approach to assist in finding coping skills that are meaningful and work with you.
I believe in approaching situations with an educational and strength-based perspective. I try to work with your strengths and build on what works. I assist in finding skills that have gone unnoticed or underutilized.
Every journey of healing is different. Not every therapist is right for everyone. I only hope that I can assist where I can. If you believe that I am a good fit, please try a session with me. If I am not the right fit, I can assist in finding a therapist who will fit your needs. It is your journey; I am just a rest area for your travels.

"As someone who has had their voice silenced in the past, I try to listen first and speak second."
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I originally wanted to be a teacher. I have always loved learning. It was in my studies that I found a love for psychology and sociology. I transitioned to social work. I love it because it looks at a person in their environment and tries to assist in finding ways to manage their life through internal and external barriers.
What types of clients do you work best with?
Clients who are willing to do the homework. I know it seems boring or that it is not going to work. I break down why exercises are given and what potential benefits are to be expected. I cannot make you use the tools; I can only show you how to use them.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Your health, both mental and physical, is a journey. It does not have a particular destination, only a path laid out before you. You decide where it takes you. I can only assist with how to navigate some of the harder terrains.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
We will start by reviewing your past mental health experiences. What worked and what did not work. Then we will look at your current and past relationships with self, family, friends, and intimate partners. From there, we explore how each relationship is impacting you. Then we ask what it is that you want out of therapy. From there, we create a plan and change as we go. It's a lot, but life is rarely simple.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I try to promote your voice. I want you to be heard.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I try to take a person in the environment. We identify what can be controlled and what is out of our control. We build a plan that is for you. We try to work with what works with you, not against you.
