Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I have always ended up being the type of person who helps people through problems and is supportive of emotions. When I found out I hated all the type of work that came with being an electrical engineer I decided to follow this path instead. I have always loved helping people and enjoying also being able to understand myself.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work well with a wide range of clients everything from every day adjustments and stress all the way to trauma and PTSD. It may be easier to just talk about what I don't work with which is Major Psychiatric disorders and Personality disorders. Everything else is in my wheelhouse and I enjoy working with them.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I really enjoy working with families to support children and parent work. I also love working with individual adults who deal with anxiety, depression, stress, life goals, and many other factors to help people create the lives they want for themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
How to live a life the was focused on pursuing joy instead of attempting to avoid pain.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
The atmosphere seems enjoyable, and I like what they stand for especially being a hybrid in person and online therapy organization.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by hard work and effort, courage, and most of all a positive outlook on life which is what I try to have every day no matter what it throws at me.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
They will likely get to know who I am as a therapist, a bit of psychoeducation after they have discussed what they hope to achieve in their time in therapy. That couples with a connected, compassionate, and warm level of communication from me will start from day one!
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I would love to know what they came to therapy for and to be able to assess and derive our first set of goals together with some practice tools to start with that are basic and help build a fundamental level of skills and understanding.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am an open book so feel free to ask or talk to me if things don't work for you, I am interested in your honest opinions and they are necessary to create a plan and treatment that works for them. Also you should be ready to work together as this is meant to assist you in getting to the path in life you want!
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I am a major video game player so that takes up some of my time. I also enjoy board games and table top games in particular Dungeons and Dragons. I also work out at the gym, enjoy bowling, disc golf, and golfting.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My overly optimistic personality.
