About Shirelle
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with 17 years of experience supporting individuals navigating depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and other severe and persistent mental health conditions. I also work with clients facing family dynamics, relationship concerns, identity development, and major life transitions. I take a client-centered approach that emphasizes compassion, resilience, and meaningful personal growth.
I earned my master’s degree in mental health counseling from Monmouth University. My work is grounded in trauma-informed care, and I utilize evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and motivational interviewing, alongside reflective and exploratory therapeutic work.
I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, validated, and empowered. Together, we will clarify your values, identify your goals, and work toward meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you. You do not have to navigate life’s challenges alone, and I am here to support you on your healing journey.

"As a woman of color who has personal experience with trauma, I can appreciate how painful and challenging it can be to rebuild and empower ourselves."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I have always been driven by a desire to help others. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a doctor, but as I grew older, I realized that healing extends beyond medicine. I witnessed the struggles people face from life’s challenges, and I felt compelled to support them. Mental health has deeply affected my family, and I’ve seen firsthand how important it is for people to feel safe and understood. With empathy and a strong appreciation for the beauty of imperfection, I strive to remind others that they are not alone and that support is always within reach.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work closely with adults who have faced difficult times and are ready to make meaningful changes in their lives. My experience spans across diverse groups — women and men, couples and families, both younger and older generations — each bringing unique strengths and challenges.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I want everyone to understand that therapy is not a sign of weakness. It takes true strength to recognize when help is needed and the courage to ask for it. Choosing vulnerability is not a flaw — it is one of the greatest forms of strength.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In our first session, clients can expect us to learn each other. I will explore your history. We will identify your goals and establish a treatment plan together. I like to provide my clients with self-work to work on in between sessions and we will practice skills together in a non-judgmental environment. The early stage of therapy is the time where we discover what works and what doesn't work. As we begin to peel the onion back, you can learn to be the healthy version of yourself that you desire to be.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
In our first session, we’ll take time to get to know one another. I’ll explore your personal history, and together we’ll identify your goals and create a treatment plan tailored to your needs. Between sessions, I encourage self-work to help you continue growing, and we’ll practice skills in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. The early stages of therapy are about discovering what approaches work best for you. As we gradually uncover deeper layers, you’ll begin to move toward the healthier, more authentic version of yourself that you aspire to be.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I begin by asking clients which approaches have worked for them in the past and which have not. From there, I focus on building upon their strengths and developing a clear understanding of their preferences. As clients share their stories, I gain insight into the strategies that will best support their needs. Through collaboration, we refine what is essential and let go of what no longer serves them, creating a path forward that is both effective and empowering.
