Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I knew when I was 12 years old that I wanted to be a counselor, I remember telling people that is what I would do when I grew up. Interestingly, I have never wavered from that decision.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Working with individuals/couples who are facing life changes whether it be, young adults transitioning to college or leaving home, to older adults entering retirement, and to all those in the middle. As we know change is our constant, though it often the culprit for anxiety and stress. I enjoy the challenge as a therapist and a fellow human being to help people navigate through the windy paths.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I enjoy working with all clients. I believe that each individual/couple brings freshness and hope to the table. By taking the first step to set up an appointment for counseling requires courage and exposure to vulnerability.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
That there is no right or wrong approach to living, we are all doing the best we can with what we have. I have a few sayings - Life is for Living - Create memories - Keep your eye on the prize. These mantras bring home the preciousness of life.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I have so many reasons why I chose to work for Thriveworks - one of biggest reasons is that you are getting some of the best clinicians that want the best for you. The standards are high on all levels: confidentially, ethics, and flexibility.
What inspires you?
I get inspired when a client and/or couple has an ah-ha moment and the puzzle pieces begin to fit together in their lives.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Acceptance, non-judgement, and a safe place to share.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
The first session is for gathering basic information on what brought you to the session and an opportunity to get to know each other.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Cycle, yoga, read, watch comedies, dance when I get a chance, and travel
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Being curious and looking for answers to difficult questions.
