About Nicole
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 6 years of experience in the mental health field with a certification as an ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP) and specialize in providing counseling services for ADHD and anxiety, but also work with depression, grief and life transitions while using a CBT, person-centered, solution-focused, mindfulness-based lens.
My clients usually do not have the proper support or systems they need such as time management or accountability and may feel overwhelmed with a new life circumstance. I like to highlight how a different perspective can make a difference in better understanding a situation, whether it's challenging negative thoughts, using a system or resource tool differently, or even improving boundaries.
We all have barriers preventing us from getting where we want to be in life. I'm able to help identify what is standing in the way and develop tools so we can get where we want to be, without subtracting from your life experiences. If you're ready to do the work, I'm here for it!
I received my BA in English from Rutgers University, and my MA in Professional Clinical Counseling from La Salle University. I started my counseling career in community mental health and also led IOP groups for substance abuse treatment after being in the teaching world for 5 years between NJ and PA school systems.

"The relationship between therapist and client is one of the most important factors when determining success in the therapy process. To feel heard, understood, validated, and above all else, empowered to live their most authentic life, starts here."

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I had a teacher who listened to all of my sadness, anxiety, stress, happiness, etc., and I wanted to be that person for people too. So I became a teacher. I had more of an impact with working with my students outside of focused class time. Conversations with students in the hall, greeting them before class, lunch periods, etc. I was helping them more socially than teaching academically. I started referring them to the counseling department who asked if I had considered ever becoming a counselor with my consistency in talking with kids, and then opening up about their problems and why they were actually acting out. I looked into it, and that's really what I wanted to be.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Clients that can connect with me and are ready for the therapeutic process. Rapport is so important with the therapeutic process. If you can't trust me, then you're not ready to share your story with me, and that is very telling if we are a good fit or not.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Appreciators of metaphors! Also, anyone who would like to work with me based on this profile, and any who are willing to give me a chance to be their counselor.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
Our work never stops
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Flexibility and availability of appointments.
What inspires you?
Mr. Darcy. The literary hero of Pride and Prejudice, but also my cat. Both are so noble in their endeavors of meaning well, and both as graceful in following through with their plans, each in their own way. It's inspiring to fight and defend that hard for what you believe in. If you can't tell which is my cat and which is the book character, just wait and see what positives I can help point out and what negative thoughts I challenge with this kind of thinking.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Telling me about yourself, what you would like to see from sessions, and *hopefully* feeling heard enough to come back to continue our work together.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Setting goals for our work together
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am a genuine person, and my only expectation is that you are as genuine as you feel safe enough to be when working with me, and open to the process.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Right now I’m into gardening, food photography and am reconnecting with reading for fun
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I personally do and I don't like this, but "caring too much" is the essence of who I am as I've recognized for myself and what others in my life journey have told me.
