Get to know Marya
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I became a therapist because I love the collaborative nature of working with people towards their own discovery, growing and healing.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work well with individuals and couples who are self-reflective and committed to the therapeutic process.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I get excited working with clients who see therapy as an opportunity for personal growth.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
That they already possess the capacity for change, growth and healing and that therapy helps us tap into that.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I think Thriveworks throughly vets their clinicians and as such, it's a practice full of colleagues whose work I respect and admire.
What inspires you?
People inspire me. I think there is nothing "ordinary" about "ordinary people." We all have unique challenges and sometimes it's hard not to get bogged down in the negative, but we all have unique qualities and strengths as well. Seeing someone overcome or make positive steps towards overcoming adversity is inspiring.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
A getting to know you session where we discuss a little background about them and why they are seeking therapy.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I hope to help a client feel comfortable about the work we are going to embark on and to discover what they wish to accomplish through our sessions.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love going to live theatre so I'm very excited that Broadway is opening back up after Covid-19, but reading historical fiction and long walks with my dogs aka "the girls" is soul nurturing for me as well.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My love of animals I think defines me in a way. I wish I could rescue them all and I'm always up for a good nature documentary!
