About Kyra
Kyra Baumstark is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with 8 years experience viewing people as just that, people. She specializes trauma, anxiety, depression, and general life challenges.
Kyra received her Master's degree in Social Work with a Concentration in Clinical Practice with Children and Families from Monmouth University. She knows that every step you take is a big one, therapy might even count as two.
Take those two steps and schedule an appointment with Kyra. Then sit back and be proud of yourself that you did. She looks forward to working together as a team.

"As an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I am determined to be there with you, regardless how bad the day is."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I am a human being, just like you, and some of the pain I experienced in my life was too much to go through alone. So I decided I would not let others go through their pain alone, I would be there for them.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Being a younger clinician, I find that children and adolescents find me easy to build rapport with. But any individual who wants a teammate on this mental health journey, I work well with.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I love working with children and adolescents, their youthful spirit and resilience speaks volumes. But through working with children, I have recognized that their parents, adults in general, are just as full hearted and need support too. In reality, I am just excited to be your therapist.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
You are good enough, every day you are good enough.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I found myself wanting to be who I was as a clinician. Thriveworks encourages ethical independence as a clinician.
What inspires you?
That the world keeps spinning. That every day we didn't think we could get through, we did! And we will continue to even when it doesn't feel like it (sometimes with a helping hand from your Thriveworks therapist)!
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Our first session will be all about getting to know one another, I will not expect you to spill your trauma that happened when your parents divorced when you were three, but I would like to know if you are a dog or cat person, what your hobbies are, and what song has been playing on repeat.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
By the end of our first session I want you to see me as a therapist who has your back, and I want to see you as a client who is going to try their best, no matter what that looks like.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I don't candy coat and I will not lie to you to make you feel better, I will always practice empathy, not sympathy. Our sessions will not be a place of any judgement but they will also not be a place for baloney.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love to spend as much time nurturing my soul as possible. I love to cook delicious meals, read books that do not let me put them down, and spend as much time outside via camping, hiking, and kayaking (all with my dog) as possible. My dog, Willow, is my number one supporter and will most likely be seen popping up in the back of our virtual sessions!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I genuinely care and I genuinely think the world is a great place. I love solo travel, sunsets, new food, people's laughs, a great cup of coffee, and the way my dog falls on her side onto the floor with a huff. But it took me awhile to get there, a long while, and in all honesty that's why I care so much and that's why it is so great.
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a difficult thing, it is not needing the radio to be on even numbers, it is intrusive thoughts and fighting every fiber of your being. I will always be proud of my past client who thought I was crazy and remarked that she would not partake in any type of therapy but then realized she wanted to be her again. As a team we fought every thought, every compulsion, and the look on her face when she exposed herself to a trigger and avoided her typical OCD response will forever be seared in my brain. The pride she had in herself will always overshadow all the pride I had in her, which was considerable.
