Get to know Emily
Why did you decide to become a counselor?
It is cliché, but I became a therapist as I wanted to make a difference. I spent years watching others struggle without support and wanted to dedicate my life to providing that support to those in need.
What types of clients do you work with best?
My favorite type of clients are those who are ready to engage and want gain an new perspective on their life.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I enjoy working with clients who are looking for alternative ways to deal with life stressors. I am also excited to work with clients navigating their gender and/or sexuality journey.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
What works for one person does not necessarily work for the next. Everyone brings unique experiences that can effect what method is best for them.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I wanted to work at Thriveworks as it allows me autonomy to use different evidence based practices as determined by clients needs and not organizational requirements.
What inspires you?
I get inspired by seeing the growth in my clients and watching them meet their goals.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I use the first session to understand the expectations of my client and for the client to understand my expectations. It is important that we vibe together.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want clients to feel hopeful leaving the first session.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I view therapy as the client's journey and I am there to show alternative paths. It is not my role to judge a client asking for help.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I spend most of my free time enjoying the outdoors or reading. I especially enjoy exploring new places or spending the day on the boat.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My loved ones define me the most.
