Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I knew I wanted to be a therapist when I was in high school. I lost my father at a young age, and I dealt with a lot of loss before I turned 18. I wanted to help others who were hurting or needed an ear to listen. I wanted to become a counselor to make connections with people and be a form of support.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
They are resilient and capable of so much!
What inspires you?
People inspire me. My family, the people I work with, friends, strangers I meet. I am inspired by people's kindness, selflessness, and joy for life.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
During the first session, clients can expect to talk about their current symptoms or struggles, as well saying a bit about their relationships, interests, strengths, and goals for therapy.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
My goal for the first session is to start to build a connection with the individual. Building rapport is key for the therapeutic process.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am a more laid back clinician and I will follow their lead. I want them to understand that this is a collaborative relationship, rather than me as the expert.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love being outdoors. I am very active and enjoy physical exercise, sports, and exploring new places. I am also a big believer is spending time with loved ones! My family and friends are very close to me and I utilize a lot of my time off with them.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am a mother with three children. Being a mother has taught me how to be the best version of myself. It has also allowed me to be more forgiving on myself and others. I believe we all deserve more grace.
