About Todd
I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC) with 28 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, college students, adults, and couples. I work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral concerns, and relationship challenges. I strive to create a supportive, affirming environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout their healing journey.
I earned my master’s degree in agency and community counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University. My clinical approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy and person-centered therapy, helping clients understand how thoughts and behaviors influence emotions while building insight, resilience, and meaningful change.
I believe therapy works best when clients feel safe, validated, and genuinely understood. I will walk alongside you as you explore your experiences, develop effective coping skills, and work toward your personal goals. Seeking counseling is a powerful step forward, and I welcome the opportunity to support you on that path.

"As a counselor with over 20 years of experience and as a person who has struggled with anxiety and depression, I am passionate about helping others reach their goals as they work toward increased mental and emotional well-being."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I have always been drawn to helping professions. When others began to point out gifts I had in listening to others and helping them process what they were experiencing, I began to explore the counseling field. I was passionate about what I was learning and much of it resonated with me. Having received therapy myself, I personally know the benefits of working with a solid counselor; and based on my gifts and talents, I discerned that I could provide a similar experience for others.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with children age 8 or older. I have worked extensively with youth and young adults, especially those who are college-aged. I work especially well with couples, having helped numerous couples navigate the challenges of relationships.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish all clients knew that there is never a 100% guarantee that counseling is effective, but that those who are willing to do some work tend to experience greater success. I also wish people knew that seeking counseling is a sign of inner strength and nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In the first session, a client can expect me to carefully review policies and procedures, as well as my professional disclosure statement. We will then complete an intake interview, so that I learn as much as possible about the client. The first session will always end with a review of what I've heard, as well as a technique to begin trying. In the early stages of therapy, clients can expect to be heard and validated as we dig more deeply into the struggles at hand. Clients will also learn a variety of techniques they can use between sessions.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My personal experience of being diagnosed first with depression and then with anxiety inform my practice. Because I received such excellent care (and still do!), I strive to offer the same excellence to clients. I also believe that all people are worthy of dignity, love, and respect - that everyone has value and is a unique person this world needs. I am committed to the values of confidentiality, respect, and empathy.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I tailor therapy to meet each client's unique needs by listening carefully to them. The client knows themselves best, which means they are best equipped to share what is and is not working. For me, every counseling session looks different, because every client is a unique individual.
