Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I have know I wanted to be a therapist since adolescence. As I experienced the many trials of being a teenager, I saw a stellar therapist who made me feel less alone, more capable, and more grounded. Through this experience, I realized how much I wanted to help others experience those things and to move from surviving each day to thriving as their best selves.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with folks who are committed to working on change, no matter where they are in the change process. If you are not sure where to begin or if you know precisely how you’d like your life to look different, I’m here to help! I’m a therapist who provides an understanding and nonjudgmental space for you to feel heard and supported in whatever you are here to do.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I feel incredibly excited to work with people who want to build their sense of self, self-esteem, and affirm their true identities. I love working with trauma survivors, those moving through difficult life transitions, and those who are experiencing anxiety and/or depression. As stated, I absolutely love working with folks in the LGBTQIA+ community, and feel inspired and highly motivated to help folks navigating their sexual and gender identities.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
The number one thing I wish all clients knew is that you are not alone. Other people feel this too!
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks is one of the most supportive therapy agencies I have experienced as a therapist, which allows me to be the best therapist I can be for my clients! Whether it’s staying up to date on trainings or having support for all things therapy-related, I feel highly supported in doing what I love to do!
What inspires you?
I am hugely inspired when I see another person find their passion, fire inside of them, or experience moments of joy and alignment. I love seeing the humans I care for and about live their true and authentic lives!
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
It is always okay for clients to be nervous for their first session (or second, third, fourth, and beyond); something that can help is moving slowly, getting to know one another, and getting clear on what you want to work on! I use humor and lightness when helpful, as well as a gentle and directive approach to move through the nervousness to gain relationship and understanding of one another.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
It is most important to me that clients feel welcomed and understood, first and foremost. My job is always to listen first, and to acknowledge how scary and brave it can be to show up! It is also important that we begin to uncover our road map for the goals you are wanting to accomplish together.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I genuinely love what I do, and this has never been “just a job”. To genuinely love what I do means I get to show up as authentically me and passionate about meeting others exactly where they are on their individual journey. One of my greatest strengths is connection and building meaningful relationships. Because of this, it feels easy to show up with warmth and understanding. If you’re not sure what you’d like to look different in your life, but you know you want something to change, you are in the right place! It is my job and speciality to help map out some small steps towards change given your unique roadblocks and insight.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
My partner and I own a vintage clothing and toy shop on the side, so I am very passionate about most things 80’s and 90’s. I love movies, music, and all things old, and am often either hunting some treasures at a thrift store or yard sale, or are at home watching a sci-if, thriller, or horror movie of the past! I also love being outside as much as possible, especially with our 4 rescue pups!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I believe in showing up as authentically and purposefully for the humans in my life, whether that is my friends, family, fur babies, or clients and colleagues!
