Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I always wanted to help people. I'm a very compassionate person and I have a lot of empathy regarding other people's experiences. Providing counseling services for those who are struggling with mental health issues is a passion of mine that helps me to give back to the community.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I enjoy working with the LGBTQ population and their unique issues. I also enjoy working with individuals who have what some would consider alternative lifestyles. I have experience working with all ages but I primarily work with adults 18 and up.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish that there wasn't such a sigma surrounding mental health and therapy. It's something that I truly believe everyone will need at some point in their lifetime. The healing process can be a long journey and it's much easier to face with a licenced professional by your side.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In the beginning, when first meeting a new client, I use a person centered approach by meeting you where you are. I take time to get to know my clients and gain a good understanding of their background and goals. In the early stages of therapy we will work together to create goals and find ways to make your life better.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I am a LGBTQ self-identified individual, which is why this community is so near and dear to my heart. I also have been through my own negative experiences in life that give me the ability to connect with clients on a wide range of problems.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I listen and observe my clients to figure out what specific needs they have that I can assist with. Choosing an evidence based method of guiding clients towards their goals.
