Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
Living with OCD, anxiety, and depression, I began seeking therapeutic services in my adolescent years. I learned very early on that most of my therapist didn't have the proper knowledge of what OCD is and how to treat it, and for years I struggled feeling like no one understood or could help me. I became a therapist to help others like me who have OCD and to be the therapist for my clients that I never had.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Clients who are talkative, positive (for the most part), share Christian faith. Women and men within the ages of 20 to 65.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients that are optimistic about beginning therapy and who really want to take charge and practice the coping skills we discuss in session and apply them to their daily life. I love clients that come prepared to take notes and who ask thoughtful questions.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
While I am still considered a "newbie" therapist, I truly feel that I have what it takes as a great therapist to provide skills and resources to all my clients that can better their mental health and improve quality of life. I myself have been in therapy and have worked with a lot of various clients in my short time as a therapist and truly feel that I am knowledgable and understanding of various mental health struggles (anxiety, depression, ocd, trauma, grief and loss) and the ability to navigate those tough areas with clients and truly create a positive and impactful treatment plan that allows the client to learn necessary skills that will better the clients mood, behavior, and overall release that weight that many are plagued with when struggling with their mental health.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I heard that ThriveWorks had a wonderful reputation and I was also very pleased with the opportunity that ThriveWorks offers to provide both therapeutic and psychiatric services to clients.
What inspires you?
What inspires me is hearing how I have helped my clients and there is something so powerful and fulfilling in seeing a client improve and get better and knowing that I was a part of that.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In the first session with me I will give a little introduction about myself (i.e,. who I am, why I'm a therapist), and then I will ask the client what brings them to therapy and allow them to elaborate and share a bit about their life (i.e. family, work) and what they hope to get out of therapy. Basically a "get to know you" session.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
By the end of the first session with a client, I want to have learned a bit about who they are, what they like, and get a sense of their personality and how I can meet them where they are at, beginning to build that therapeutic relationship. More importantly I want to have an understanding of how they are struggling with their mental health, how long they have been experiencing this struggle, and what it is that they want to get out of therapy.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am a positive person, I like to chat, and I really want to get to know my clients and who they are in and outside of therapy. This will help me to better build a relationship with you and get a sense for your "vibe", what you are comfortable/uncomfortable discussing, and an idea of where we can beginning working!
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, especially my husband and our dog Lucy. I also enjoy shopping and traveling. I am a singer/songwriter on the side and play the guitar.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am a very positive person and as a therapist I will act as my client's cheerleader and be that support system that they can always rely on.
