About Kati
Kat Burkhart is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) with over 4 years of experience working with adults and seniors who are seeking assistance in coping with anxiety, stress, ADHD, depression, dysfunctional relationships, life transitions, and sexual dysfunction. Kat works with many different kinds of people, but her main focus revolves around sex therapy.
Kat earned her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Sex Therapy from Capella University. She can assist those who have been assaulted in moving through their trauma to regain the strength and life they want to live. Kat also wants to help couples who are seeking to understand each other's desires and needs better and though she does not work with couples struggling with infertility, she is supportive of working with couples in other ways! She tends to think outside the box and come up with coping skills, or techniques that may be outside of traditional methods. Kat enjoys trying new things with patients to get them to open up, exploring ways to help them.
Kat is straightforward in her approach to therapy and asks questions that may challenge you to help you push yourself forward and really see progress in yourself. She'll help you to grow, learn, and become happy and trusting in the process of therapy.
*At this time, Kati is not accepting clients seeking therapy for infertility, drug and alcohol or related topics.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I have a drive to help people and I know that being a kind, empathetic and good listener is something everyone needs.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Adults that are dealing with some sort of issue related to their sex life.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
You don't always find YOUR therapist on the first try, and that is perfectly alright, the important part is to not stop trying to find them so you can get the help you deserve.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
The core values are what drew me in, but it is how they treat their employees that really sealed it for me.
What inspires you?
Seeing people succeed, be happy and live the life they want! Seeing people doing that makes me happy, and being able to help someone get that back is where I find my happiness.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Other than the paperwork and pleasantries, I let them know my style. I am not shy about the hard questions and I may not always say something they want to hear but my job is to help you and ignorer to that, I must challenge you.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Trust. If they do not feel that under different circumstances we could have been friends, then they will not relate well in future sessions, so that bond is important.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Im eclectic with my style, I may be solution focused with one person and allow others to strictly vent. I work with the client to meet them where they are at and allow them to tell me what they want/expect.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I am teaching myself to crochet and play piano! I enjoy my time with my dog, family and friends. I find joy in so many things!
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My family would say helpful, I am willing to do what ever I can to help those I care about.
