Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
My decision to become a counselor was from both personal experiences & desire to help children & families during life's most challenging moments. I have experienced & seen how compassion, understanding, & the right support can make a difference in someone's life. I believe that healing begins with feeling safe, heard, & accepted so I work to create a space where every client feels comfortable no matter their situation.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with teens, young adults, & families who are ready to take the first step toward healing & growth, even if they're not sure where to begin. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, family conflict, or major life transitions. Others are seeking support to strengthen family relationships, improve communication, or develop healthier ways of coping with life's challenges.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
One thing I wish clients knew about therapy is that it is a place where you can show up exactly as you are—with your questions, fears, struggles & hopes. Healing isn't about being perfect; it's about taking one step at a time, learning how to go from uncomfortable to comfortable, & identifying how you have the ability to make a change.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
During our first session, my priority is getting to know you & creating a space where you feel comfortable, heard, & supported. We will talk about what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, your personal history, & your goals. There is no pressure to share everything at once—we will move at a pace that feels right for you. As we move forward, we will work together to better understand your experiences, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck & build tools to help you navigate these challenges.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My personal experiences of trauma, neglect, & single parent home taught me the need & value of therapy, of how critical it is to have a non-biased, nonjudgemental support person in our lives. This is what I provide to all my clients. The values I bring to therapy are to assure clients that no matter the situation, they are all seen, heard, & accepted. I believe every person has the capacity for growth & change, even during life's most difficult seasons.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
My role is not to tell clients what to do, but to support you with compassion, empathy, & respect as we work together toward your goals. I also believe that no two people are alike. That's why I tailor therapy to each client's unique needs, drawing from evidence-based approaches such as Person-centered, CBT, EMDR, play therapy, grief counseling, and parent coaching to provide individualized care that supports lasting change & growth.
