Get to know Darryl

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I retired from the bail bonding industry and wanted to expand my knowledge of mental health and substance abuse. I completed the academic requirements for a Doctor of social work and I became a scholarly practioner of the craft.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work well with clients between the ages of 18 to 75 years of age. I work well with people who have career issues, bipolar, traumas, military service, anger issues, anxiety, and major depression.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I work well with people who have career issues, bipolar, traumas, military service, first responders, people with anger issues, anxiety, substance abuse, major depression, and faith based practices.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I am a Clinical Social Worker; my focus is on assisting my clients to take charge of their inner power to find healing and make changes in their life, not as victims but as life warriors.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

Thriveworks has developed a program where clinicians, such as myself, can grow and expand our knowledge of the craft.

What inspires you?

I believe that if I can be someone's miracle today I have met my spiritual goals.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

I utilize a four-step process: I completed the required intake process with the client, with the client we identify the personal goals and clinical goals, I listen while the client shares their history, and with the client we develop a strategy on what the client wants to achieve.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

We will complete the intake interview, complete the personal care plan, complete the diagnoses, and Identify the client's strengths and weaknesses.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

My goal is to help you, an expert on your life, to identify what you want, so it is important the person comes to me with an idea of what they want and need.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I am a dog trainer and have been one for over 50 years. I enjoy teaching dog tracking. I enjoy music and live performances. I am a spiritual person and enjoy my time finding adventure in the world and love to travel.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I am an empathetic person with a kind heart and I am a firm believer that we each have the ability inside of us to make changes in our lives.
