Why did you decide to become a counselor?
Growing up, I had to navigate turmoil in my family relationships due to parental divorce and other extended family conflicts. This created intense experiences of anxiety and depression for me. I went to a counselor as a teen, and my outlook on career possibilities changed. I wanted to provide the support to others that the counselor was providing me. I attended college and completed field work providing services to the houseless population, engaging with diverse walks of life. This experience showed me how important a listening ear is and the barriers to receiving support. This taught me to go back to the basics and build support from the base up, outlining the importance of community and no longer feeling alone as I experienced growing up.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients from all walks of life, aged 18 to 65+. My main focus is to help people discover their identities. Those who come to sessions open to self-exploration and maintain a willingness to learn about themselves will get the most out of my services.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients looking to manage their anxiety and trauma levels that impact their day-to-day living. I look forward to those who are “self-curious” and want to find ways to lean into their self-identities.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
No one knows your story better than you. I am here to ride this journey with you. You have the ability to transition from just surviving to thriving by taking the wheel and discovering the narrative of your life.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to work for Thriveworks because of the passion the company has for its clients. They care about the services that are provided to ensure clients develop a good working relationship with their counselors, ensuring no one has to be alone.
What inspires you?
Self-discovery inspires me! I love to see myself and others flourish in ways they haven't envisioned before. It motivates me to show up for others and experience their personal discovery.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
During our first session, I will ensure we are a good fit to work together, ask questions, and explore your story to determine a starting point for us both.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session, I would like to gain an understanding of your needs as my client. I do this by learning about your background, strengths, barriers, and the goals you have for your sessions when moving forward with me.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Something you should know about me before scheduling is that I work with a wide variety of symptoms. Counseling is not a one-size-fits-all process, and I work with what is presenting for you to navigate the challenges and barriers you experience. With a trauma-informed lens, we navigate things holistically.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
During my time off, I love to read, engage in fitness, and spend time with my hound dog. I spend time working on my own self-care practices to maintain my health and personal stability. The more we work on ourselves, the more we can show up for others.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
The one thing that defines me is my patience and approachability. I can talk to anyone, anywhere, and hold space for them to explore their story.
