About Venessia
I am Venessia Johnson, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who is passionate about helping individuals improve their emotional well-being and quality of life. I specialize in working with adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, anger and other emotional challenges. My clients often have goals such as learning how to better process and control their emotional challenges. They also seek tools and skills to manage anger, increase self-esteem and develop coping skills. Others come to therapy because they want to become a better version of themselves-not only for themselves but also for the people they love.
In therapy, I use evidence-based approaches tailored to each client's needs. CBT is utilized to help clients develop healthier thought patterns. Additionally, DBT is utilized to provide tools for emotional regulation and healthier relationships. Other practical therapeutic approaches include "Journaling, Mindfulness, and development of Coping Skills".
Taking the first step toward wholeness, healing and resilience can feel overwhelming. However, I invite you to take the next step by scheduling an appointment. Together, we can create a safe space to explore what you're experiencing, identify where you want to grow, and work toward a healthier, more balanced, and fulfilling life.

"As an individual who has various life experiences, I am empathetic and able to provide a "safe" space for others to process overwhelming feelings and emotions."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a mental health therapist to help individuals work toward healing, resilience and emotional well-being.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with adults.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish all clients knew that mental health wellness involves "intentional" use of tools and skills discussed by therapist in therapy sessions.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
During our first few sessions together, clients can expect a supportive environment where we will discuss treatment goals, review assessment scales, and begin identifying areas of growth and healing.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My practice includes compassion and empathy that provides a safe, supportive and nonjudgmental space that promotes development of healthy coping skills, improve communication, and build self-affirming values. My goal is to promote confidence in the client’s ability to process and control overwhelming life stressors. I strive to meet each client where they are while helping them identify their strengths and to practically apply these strengths to manage emotional challenges.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs by identifying their struggles, challenges and goals, during the initial therapy sessions. I administer initial assessment tools at intake and readminister the same assessment tools in week 4 to 5. I then compare scores of both of these assessment tools, in preparation to tailor therapy based on client’s understanding and use of therapeutic interventions provided.
