About Tency
Hi, I'm Tency Weatherspoon, a Licensed Professional Counselor with experience helping adolescents, adults, and couples navigate anxiety, depression, ADHD, stress, grief, life transitions, relationship concerns, and self-esteem challenges. I take a compassionate, practical approach to therapy, helping clients build on their strengths, develop effective coping skills, and create realistic goals that support healing, growth, and lasting change.
I take a compassionate, practical approach to therapy, integrating Person-Centered, Solution-Focused, and CBT techniques. Clients can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental space where they gain insight, build coping skills, and develop realistic strategies for meaningful change.
Life can be challenging, but seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. If you're ready to take the next step toward healing, growth, and positive change, I would be honored to walk alongside you.

"Having spent years helping others navigate life's challenges while managing my own personal and professional responsibilities, I understand that seeking support takes courage and strength. "

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor because I have always been drawn to understanding people, their experiences, and what helps them heal and grow. I originally pursued psychology with a pre-med focus, but over time I realized my passion was less about treating symptoms medically and more about helping people navigate life’s challenges, build insight, develop coping skills, and create meaningful change in their lives.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with individuals, couples, and families who are seeking practical support, personal growth, and meaningful change. Many of my clients are managing anxiety, ADHD, stress, relationship concerns, life transitions, self-esteem challenges, or complex life circumstances that leave them feeling overwhelmed or stuck. I enjoy helping clients identify strengths, gain insight, develop effective coping strategies, and create realistic goals that support lasting change.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish all clients knew that healing does not require perfection. You do not have to do everything right to make progress. Sometimes the most important step is simply showing up and continuing to move forward.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
During the first session, my goal is to help clients feel comfortable, heard, and understood. We will discuss what is bringing them to therapy, explore their strengths and challenges, and identify goals they would like to work toward. In the early stages of therapy, clients can expect a collaborative approach focused on gaining insight, building practical coping skills, and creating realistic strategies for growth and positive change.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My practice is guided by the values of compassion, authenticity, respect, and personal growth. Through both my professional and personal experiences, I have learned that life can present unexpected challenges, transitions, and setbacks. These experiences have reinforced my belief that resilience can be developed, healing is possible, and everyone deserves a safe, supportive space where they feel heard, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I recognize that every client brings unique experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals to therapy. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor treatment to each individual's needs by integrating evidencebased interventions from modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), PersonCentered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Reality Therapy, Family Systems, and other approaches as appropriate. Together, we develop strategies that align with the client's goals, values, and stage of life while fostering meaningful growth and lasting change.
